Entrepreneurial activity is critical in the battle against poverty eradication, yet the communities in which our entrepreneurs choose to live and work are too broken to support sustainable businesses.
Most of their employees have very little access to medial care, education, or vocational training. They often live in slums, suffer from addiction and disease, lack access to clean water, have insufficient housing and transportation, and the list goes on. People living in marginalized communities need jobs, but they often need more than jobs - they need change in every aspect of their lives. That’s why JoyCorps helps entrepreneurs take really good care of their people by:
Providing Initial Support
We work with local leaders in each community to develop solutions to their greatest needs. To promote holistic health, our programs address needs across six dimensions of wellness (see below). We subsidize these programs until the businesses are profitable enough to shoulder the costs on their own.
We also identify and train local leaders and facilitate relationships with local resources to help us carry out these programs. The goal is not to give a temporary handout, but to move the community toward real transformation and the business toward long-term sustainability.
