Activating a Design Thinking and Systems Approach - To Encourage Community Reintegration for Survivors of Human Trafficking in Nepal

Abstract

It is estimated that over 19000 women and children are trafficked across the border from Nepal into India every year, Nepal's open border with India allowing for easy passage (Freedom United, 2020). The two organisations at the heart of this research, work incredibly closely with the rural - minority communities that girls are predominantly trafficked from, addressing the root causes of why this abuse of personhood exists, work to prevent it from happening and then rescue and rehabilitate the girls who fall victim to trafficking’s unrelenting cycles.

This report details the design thinking and systems practice approach that JoyCorps Studio took in exploring the opportunities and challenges of sustainable community reintegration for the young women that these organisations support.
