The JoyCorps Story

1999

JoyCorps’ journey began long before the organization was formally established. In 1999, our founders supported a textile community in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, providing programs, training, and investment to help sustain livelihoods and preserve cultural heritage. This early work planted the seeds for what would later become JoyCorps: a commitment to equipping communities through enterprise and empowerment.

2009-11

By 2009, our founders were invited to Dehradun, India, where they set up two businesses. Out of this experience, they saw the need for not just businesses, but for holistic community development. This led to the creation of JoyCorps in 2010–2011, with an initial focus on marginalized and refugee communities in northern India.

2013-16

As the work grew, so did the vision. By 2013, JoyCorps adopted its current name and established a board to reflect its mission better. Soon, entrepreneurs in the region began turning to JoyCorps for guidance. Between 2013 and 2016, JoyCorps became a hub for redemptive entrepreneurship, supporting and mentoring business leaders navigating challenging environments.

2017-19

The next leap came with international expansion. In 2017, JoyCorps began building partnerships with organizations and redemptive businesses in Thailand. This paved the way for the launch of the JoyCorps Fellowship in 2019, a structured business accelerator and incubator. That same year, 14 ventures joined as partners, and JoyCorps hosted its first in-person summits in Thailand, marking the beginning of a new chapter of global engagement.

2020

The following years tested the resilience of both entrepreneurs and communities. Through the COVID-19 pandemic and the Myanmar coup, JoyCorps stood by its Fellows. Backed by partners like P&G, JoyCorps coached redemptive entrepreneurs from 16 ventures across four countries. Remarkably, 100% of Fellows’ businesses survived—and even added jobs at a time when marginalized communities were most at risk.

2022

In 2022, JoyCorps celebrated its first graduating cohort of Fellows from six ventures and welcomed seven new ventures into the Fellowship. That same year, JoyCorps launched its consulting arm—JoyCorps Studio—to support organizations beyond its Fellowship. An initiative to build city ecosystems across India also began, and JoyCorps hosted its largest-ever in-person summit in India.

2023

Momentum continued in 2023, with two more ventures graduating, the launch of a Concept to Launch program for 12+ early-stage entrepreneurs, and Local Labs weekend events, introducing 18 businesses in 3 Indian cities to redemptive business principles.

2024

Today, in 2024, JoyCorps supports 26 businesses and counting—each one a story of resilience, hope, and transformation. From its beginnings in Tibet and Dehradun to its global presence across Asia, JoyCorps remains committed to equipping entrepreneurs who not only build businesses but also bring redemption, dignity, and opportunity to their communities.
